Public Art
Morrisville Icon Project
Calling All Creatives! Help Bring Our Butterfly Icon Project to Life!
The Town of Morrisville is creating its next public art moment, and we want you to be part of it. Last summer, the community helped choose an icon that captures the heart and spirit of Morrisville, and the results are in: the butterfly. It represents our symbol of beauty, transformation, vibrancy, growth and community.
Now it’s time for the fun part:
We’re inviting artists to submit their imaginative, colorful designs for a series of 4‑foot fiberglass butterfly sculptures that will be installed throughout town. These butterflies will brighten spaces such as parks, greenways, and other Town‑owned properties, creating joyful, creative landmarks for all to enjoy.
What we are looking for:
- Colorful, placemaking art
- Designs that celebrate Morrisville’s character and energy
- Creative concepts ready to shine in public spaces
Your submissions will be reviewed by the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Advisory Committee, with final selections made by the Town Council. This is an opportunity to make a lasting mark on Morrisville’s public art landscape. Ready to spread your wings? Apply below and share your artistic vision with the community. The selected artist will receive an award funded by United Arts Wake County.
Email your completed application to Brittany Johnson (bjohnson@morrisvillenc.gov) by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026 (see button below).
