Mission

The department's mission is to enhance the quality of life for Morrisville residents by ensuring citizen safety, maintaining the infrastructure, supporting Town departments, along with providing quality essential municipal services in an efficient manner.

Accreditation

The Morrisville Public Works Department was awarded the American Public Works Association (APWA) Accredited Agency designation for the second time in July 2022.

The APWA Accreditation program recognizes public works agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the Public Works industry.

The Public Works staff performed an internal review of the department’s practices, policies, and procedures. The practices were compared with the recommended practices contained in the APWA Public Works Management Practices Manual, which acted as a guidebook for the re-accreditation process. A total of 1,800 documents were reviewed, updated, and uploaded into the APWA software to provide compliance documentation for the 363 management practices that pertained to the department’s operations.

The Town of Morrisville was the 136th agency in North America and the second agency in North Carolina to earn the APWA accreditation status in December 2018. Currently, there are about 165 agencies that have been accredited out of the 29,000 APWA member agencies. The towns of Garner and Mooresville are the only other two agencies in North Carolina that share the distinction of being accredited.
