Accreditation

The Morrisville Police Department was awarded national accreditation on November 11, 2023, by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) in the Advanced Law Enforcement program.

In 2021, the Department began the transitional process to Advanced Accreditation, which required successful compliance with 461 standards. The agency was first accredited by CALEA in 2009 and participates in a four-year reaccreditation cycle with annual reviews. Since 2009, the Department has remained successful, receiving five awards.

CALEA, widely recognized as the gold standard in public safety, offers two-tier options for accreditation. Tier One, the Law Enforcement Accreditation process, focuses on 184 standards that provide best practices for life, health, and safety procedures. These foundational standards guide contemporary law enforcement agencies in addressing high-risk situations, ensuring officers are prepared to meet community service expectations and manage critical events effectively.

Tier Two, Advanced Accreditation, is designed for elite organizations striving for professional excellence across operational and administrative functions. Agencies in this program are equipped to manage life, health, and safety concerns while addressing a broad spectrum of responsibilities, from community engagement to sound personnel practices. Advanced Law Enforcement Accreditation fosters high-performing organizations capable of meeting operational and administrative challenges and serving as leaders in the field.

CALEA accreditation emphasizes community-oriented policing and requires agencies to uphold a code of conduct recognized by law enforcement peers, the legal system, and the public. Achieving these standards demonstrates a commitment to professional excellence and adherence to best practices in law enforcement.
