Native Planting Bed Installation

 The Community Enhancement Team designed and installed a native plant garden in front of a restroom building at Morrisville Community Park. Staff removed the overgrown shrubs and trees and replaced them with new planting beds that have interesting design features such as boulders, metal trellises, and walking paths.  A group of about 12 volunteers assisted with the initial installation of the native plants. Additional plants and signage were added as the weather warmed up. The bed will one day serve as a learning garden for park attendees to discover the importance of planting natives and providing space to our wonderful pollinators.

Arbor Day Tree Planting

 In celebration of North Carolina Arbor Day on March 23rd, Public Works Staff and members of the Town Council hosted a native tree planting at Shiloh Park.  A variety of native trees, including Swamp Chestnut Oak, Yellow Wood, Celebration Sugar Maple, Sugar Hackberry, and Scarlet Oak, were planted around the shelter area of the park. By planting a diverse variety of trees, the ecosystem becomes more robust and is more resistant to stress and disease.  As these trees mature, they will provide shade during the hot summer months and habitat for flora and fauna.
