About Us

The Public Works Department is made up of six divisions that are responsible for the maintenance, operation, and repair of Town-owned buildings, grounds, parks, athletic fields, recreation areas, fleet vehicles, contracted services, sustainability programs, rights-of-way, and streets.

Garbage and Recycling Thanksgiving Schedule

Thanksgiving Holiday November 27
Garbage and recycling will not be picked up on Thursday, November 27, 2025
All garbage and recycling collections will be pushed back one day for the rest of the week.
Friday's collections will be picked up on Saturday, December 28

Green Day

Our Fall Green Day is Saturday, Nov. 15. The Town hosts Green Day events for community members to recycle goods that cannot be placed in residential recycling pickup and to dispose of hazardous or sensitive materials. These events are sponsored by the Public Works Department, the Sustainability Program, and the Morrisville Environment and Stormwater Committee.

Garbage and Recycling Christmas Schedule

Garbage and recycling will not be collected on Thursday, Dec. 25 - Christmas Day. All collections will be pushed back for the rest of the week.

Friday's collections will be picked up on Saturday, Dec. 27.

Town Offices Closed

All Town of Morrisville offices and facilities will be closed. This includes the Morrisville Aquatics & Fitness Center, Morrisville Senior Center and Cedar Fork Community Center.

Fire, EMS and Police will function normally. For emergencies, call 911.

Winter White Goods Collection

The Winter White Goods collection day is Thursday, December 4th. Items to be collected include washing machines, dryers, freezers, refrigerators, dishwashers, water heaters, stoves/ovens, and dehumidifiers.

Mission

The department's mission is to enhance the quality of life for Morrisville residents by ensuring citizen safety, maintaining the infrastructure, supporting Town departments, along with providing quality essential municipal services in an efficient manner.

Accreditation

The Morrisville Public Works Department was awarded the American Public Works Association (APWA) Accredited Agency designation for the second time in July 2022.

The APWA Accreditation program recognizes public works agencies that go beyond the requirements of the management practices established nationally in the Public Works industry.

The Town of Morrisville was the 136th agency in North America and the second agency in North Carolina to earn the APWA accreditation status in December 2018.

Public Works Staff are currently preparing for our 3^rd reaccreditation, which is scheduled in December 2025.
