Morrisville, NC — Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell shared notice that Federal immigration agents were in the area on Tuesday and prepared to conduct operations. It is not yet known how long the agents will be in the area.*

Less than 16 miles away, the Town of Morrisville, a community rich in cultural diversity and home to residents who have immigrated from other areas, prepares for business as usual.

Morrisville Mayor TJ Cawley shared that “we understand and recognize that Federal agents operate under their own authority and municipalities have no jurisdiction over any direct order they may have to carry out.” He added that Morrisville is “a welcoming and inclusive community, and the safety and well-being of all our residents is paramount. Our local law enforcement will continue to focus on community-oriented policing, building trust, and ensuring that everyone who calls Morrisville home feels secure as we go about our daily lives.”

The Morrisville Police Department has not been informed of any plans for operations to be conducted in Morrisville related to the current Federal presence in Raleigh, and will continue to perform its regular patrols and follow standard protocols.
