The Town of Morrisville announces Cindi King as its next Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Director. King has 26 years of local government experience, serving the last year and half in Morrisville as the Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources. King has expertise in aquatics, athletics, seniors and teen programs, special events, and a variety of other programming areas. She also has three years of leadership experience as the former Director of Parks and Recreation in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
King began serving in her new role on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
King participated with several external applicants in a competitive process, utilizing internal and external assessors. “I am pleased to have Cindi already in the organization with the knowledge and experience to serve as our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Director,” said Brandon Zuidema, Town Manager. “She brings an amazing mix of commitment, service, and vision to the position and will work closely with her team to continue to advance our ability to provide amenities and support to the Morrisville community.”
Under King’s leadership, the Morrisville Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department achieved CAPRA (Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies) reaccreditation for the 2nd time since its initial accreditation in 2014. The department was also selected as a beta tester for CAPRA's recent standards update.
King holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education, Recreation and Dance from Carson-Newman University. She also holds a Master of Education degree in Physical Education Administration from East Tennessee State University. King describes herself as a ‘True Parks and Rec Kid,’ one who grew up immersed in community recreation, first as a participant and later as a teen employee. She continues to follow her passion by working in the field she’s always loved—creating spaces that inspire play and build strong communities. “I’m honored to step into this role and continue building spaces where all residents feel welcome and engaged through different facets of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources. There is something for everyone!” exclaimed King.
King is also the incoming president of the North Carolina Recreation and Park Association Board of Directors. She will be inducted at the joint Carolinas conference to be held in Charleston, SC in December. She began her 3-year term in 2025 as president-elect.
