Morrisville Names Next Public Works Director

The Town of Morrisville announces Matt Wetherell as its next Public Works Director. Wetherell has 15 years of local government experience, serving the previous two and a half years in the Town of Apex as the Facilities & Grounds Manager. Wetherell has expertise in facilities management, capital project management, and public works operations. He also has four years of leadership experience as an officer in the Army National Guard and served in a leadership role on the Town of Cary's COVID Response Team.

Wetherell began serving in his new role on February 16, 2026.

Wetherell participated with several external applicants in a competitive process, utilizing internal and external assessors. “Matt demonstrated his abilities and leadership capacity through our process and came highly recommended,” said Brandon Zuidema, Town Manager. “He comes to Morrisville with a strong background in Public Works and local government and I am confident he will hit the ground running as our Public Works Director.”

Wetherell holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Central Michigan University and a Master of Public Administration from North Carolina State University. He has also completed numerous certifications through FEMA's Incident Command System and National Incident Management System programs. Wetherell describes himselfas a people-centered leader, dedicated to strengthening public service delivery, building strong teams, and continuously improving outcomes for residents.
