Morrisville Deputy Town Manager Giselle Rodriguez-Villanueva, PE, CFM, has been appointed as a Commissioner on the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) by the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE). Rodriguez-Villanueva's appointment is another mile-marker in her 18-year storied career in local government, with the last three years providing direct executive oversight to the Morrisville Fire-Rescue Department along with Inspections, Planning, Engineering and Economic Development. During this time, she has worked closely with the Fire Chief and department leadership in the focus areas of strategic planning, community risk reduction, deployment model evaluation, mutual-aid partnerships, and re-accreditation efforts. She also went the extra mile to learn how she describes best, through "hands-on" experience. Rodriguez-Villanueva donned uniform and turnout gear to participate in live burn exercises and pump school, joined Fire staff for multiple shifts, and joined the academy in physical training. This unique perspective quipped her with deeper insight into the department's needs and greatly enhanced her public safety knowledge. “Throughout my career—and especially in my current role—I have seen how accreditation elevates performance, strengthens accountability, increases transparency, and ultimately enhances service to the community. It is truly an honor to serve as a Commissioner on the CFAI and to support its mission to advance excellence in fire and emergency service organizations” said Rodriguez-Villanueva. The CFAI Commission is comprised of 13 members representing a cross-section of the fire and emergency service, city and county management, labor, standards development organizations, and the U.S. Department of War. Rodriguez-Villanueva's has been appointed to fill a seat for a city or county manager overseeing an accredited agency. Her term will begin June 1 and extend for a period of three years, ending May 31, 2029. The CPSE began in 1986 as a joint effort of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the International City/County Management Association to develop a framework for continuous improvement of the fire and emergency service.
