Church Street Park Northern Lot Closing for Lighting Upgrades
Published on April 16, 2026
Morrisville's Church Street Park Northern Lot will be closed to the public from Monday, April 27 to Monday, June 1 while lighting upgrades are installed. The Northern Lot closure will impact the cricket field, pitch, walking track, shelter, grandstands, playground, tennis courts, and parking lot.
Church Street Park, located at 5800 Cricket Pitch Way in Morrisville, is the host site of professional and amateur cricket in Morrisville and the region. The lighting upgrades are part of a previously approved Town Capital Project to upgrade lighting, enhance cricket field drainage and expand cricket pitches. This project qualified for the fiscal year 2026 Hospitality Tax Competitive Project Process, a joint initiative between Wake County and the City of Raleigh that invests in capital projects focused on driving overnight visitation, tourism-related spending and long-term economic impact. Morrisville was awarded $2,000,000 for its submitted Church Street Park Cricket Field Improvements Project.
The lighting upgrades are the first component of the project to be completed, and are estimated to generate economic impact of $500,000 in tax revenue over the next seven years. The upgrades will allow for more professional and amateur cricket matches, increase hotel/motel and tax revenues, drive broadcasting attention to Wake County and Morrisville, support the diverse interests of residents and communities, and enhance overall community use of the park.
Construction of the lighting upgrades will require the park's Northern Lot to close for public safety while contractors and equipment operate on-site during installation. Signs will be posted at park entrances beginning Monday, April 27 reminding visitors of the closure. Residents may still visit the Church Street Park Southern Lot at 905 Church Street which will remain open during this time.
